Date(s) - 10 Sep 2017
8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Location: Cochrane’s Track, east of Colborne, Ontario
Racing begins at 8:00am and continues until 5:00pm. I suggest we leave Richmond Hill at 7:30am which will give us plenty of time for shooting. You will likely have filled your memory cards well before 5:00pm!
Exit 401 at exit #497, Colborne. Go south on #25 to Purdy Rd, which is the first road on the left. Turn left (east) and follow to Cochrane Rd. At Cochrane Rd. turn left (north) and follow to end of road. Turn right into driveway and follow past barn to track. (About an hour and a half from Toronto.)
The races are one of a series held at various tracks across southern Ontario. We have chosen to shoot the races at Cochrane’s because of the sight lines and good access to vantage points for shooting. Note that there is activity on the Saturday but these are practices and generally less interesting to shoot as the riders often don’t wear their colourful outfits. What to Bring:
I have basically used only a 70-200mm lens to shoot the motocross races. Fast shutter speeds will freeze the action or you can choose to drag the shutter to play with some motion blurs. Lots of fun. You may wish to include a wide-angle lens for the action at the start line.
Dress in layers. The mornings can be cool.
Because of the distance, I suggest that you try to car pool with someone and share the cost of gas.
Expect to pay an admission charge at the gate of approximately $10. (That’s what it was when I was there 2 years ago. It may have increased a bit since then.)
Sign up on line. Contact Bruce Carmody with any questions.
