10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Aboriginal PowWow
Time: Displays open at 10:00am. Dancing starts at noon, but plan to arrive no later than 11:30am.
How to Get There: Several routes are possible, but basically you want to get to Highway 410, either via Hwy 407 or Hwy 401. Exit the 410 at CR 14 and go west to Heart Lake Road, then north to the Fairgrounds, (Just north of Old School Road)
Cost: $10 at the entrance
What to Bring:
Thanks to Rosemarie Cseff who did the legwork on this one, we have been told that we can get quite close to the dancers. (We will be considered “press”.) Tripods/monopods and flash are all acceptable. I would suggest that a zoom lens in the 70-200 range will be most useful, though you may also want something wider at times when the dancers are very close. Personally I would be tempted to bring both a 24-70 and a 70-200 to cover all the bases.
Dress for the weather, wear sunscreen.
Note: The organizers would love to receive some of our images to use in future promotions of their event. We will make arrangements to collect some of your best to share with them.
Note 2: There may be some ceremonies/dances that are considered sacred and we will be asked not to photograph at these times. Please be respectful of the aboriginal culture.
