Powerful File/Folder Modifier
Have you ever tried to rename or delete a folder only to receive an error message something like this: ‘this folder cannot be renamed because it is in use by another application or process’?
I find that this happens somewhat randomly, but usually when I want to make a change to more than one folder in sequence. Upon checking you may very well find that the message is false and still it prevents you from modifying the folder
There are messy solutions to this problem, but also a simple, straightforward one. I’ll talk briefly about the latter solution. This involves downloading the free app: unlocker. It is available at this url: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml
It installs easily and gives you the option of renaming, deleting, or moving folders/files on your hard drive. The downside when I used it was that the program closes after each change performed. Thus to change the next folder in the set of 30 I wanted to change I had to restart the app, drill to the file/folder in question, select the nature of the change, type my change, confirm with a click, and start over with restarting the app.
Though not ideal for large numbers of files or folders this app can be a life saver on the odd occasion when Windows refuses to allow these kinds of changes without persuasion.
