Rules for Print Competitions
Prints must be within the specified size range and be mounted according to instructions.
Print Specifications:
Prints must be mounted on a rigid backing, either foam board or mat board and MUST NOT be framed.
Matting is optional. Only single mats are allowed. If a mat is used, then it must be firmly attached so that none of the layers separate easily.
The print, including its rigid backing, should not be thicker than 3/16″ (or 5mm).
The mounted print must have one dimension no smaller than 8″ and must not exceed 17″ x 22″ overall.
(for example: 5×8 is not acceptable; 8×10 is acceptable – 22×22 is not acceptable; 17×17 is acceptable – 5×22 is not acceptable; 8×22 is acceptable)
These constraints for dimensions exist so that the prints will sit properly on our print viewing equipment for judging. They must be easily handled by our committee and mounted for display at our presentation meetings.
The print must be clear of any material that could cause damage or stick to another entry. Prints that have tape or any other sticky material will be ineligible and not judged. Competition prints are stacked prior to judging, so any residues on the back of a print could potentially damage another print … so, please be considerate of other club members.
Note: the print team will disqualify any print that does not meet the above requirements.
Entries:
Up to 4 prints may be entered in each of print competition. Subject matter is photographer’s choice.
The number of print competitions per season is subject to change.
An image (print or digital image) entered into any RHCC Competition must be substantially different than any image entered by the same maker in the same or in a previous RHCC Competition, regardless of format (print or digital) or colouring or toning. Members may request the competition team to confirm the eligibility of images prior to the submission deadlines.
Images submitted for Print Competitions must have been created within the past 5 years (after September 1, 2019 for the current season).
A digital version of the print must be uploaded to the competition submission page by the deadline. The digital version is not used for judging, but is needed for managing submissions and for presentation at club meetings.
Prints must be delivered to a club meeting for collection. The date of collection is usually the same day as the deadline for submission. If you can’t make it to the meeting, then please arrange for another member to deliver the prints in your place.
Labels:
All prints submitted for competitions must have standard labels on the back.
We will have labels at the club meetings or you may print your own and download the template here:
RHCC Print Labels 6 up (Avery 5264) [doc format]
RHCC Print Labels 6 up (Avery 5264) [pdf format]
These templates are for use with “6 up” (Avery 5264) labels.
6-up labels are generally available in all Staple stores.
When facing the back of your print, place the label in the top left corner.
RHCC labels must remain on the back of the print until the end of year. Only the ORIGINAL print may be entered into end-of-year competitions. NO copies or substitutions will be accepted for end-of-year (Phoenix or Print-of-the-Year) judging of prints.
